Memorial Day is the time to remember and honor those who have lost their lives while serving in the U.S. Military, It also symbolizes the beginning of summer and you can look forward to the long weekend which means extra time in the sun. So why not spend this Memorial Day celebrating with those who mean the most to you and get in some relaxation while enjoying a backyard BBQ with your closest friends and family.
Inspired by everything MyGift, you’ve compiled a fun and simple backyard BBQ that’s sure to get your creative juices flowing for your BBQ settings, meals, and outdoor fun.
We added a subtle red, white and blue themed pinwheels and stars to the centerpiece to bring in a patriotic feel without going too “4th of July” with stars and stripes. You could easily fill a vase with the same colors to give a similar effect. The table runner also incorporates the patriotic colors with a stripe design. You could even add a bandana pattern or solid color tablecloth. You could even add a banner or tassels with similar coloring to keep the theme going. For an Americana touch, we placed an American flag napkin holder matched with red napkins for added color as well as patriotic décor. Consider adding striped or star napkins instead for an Americana design.
Simple is always better when it comes to a large (or small) gathering. We went with typical burgers and hotdogs with basic toppings that appeal to a crowd. To stick with the BBQ theme you could do more elaborate main dishes such as Baby Back Ribs or Grilled Chicken Wings. Our sides consisted of bbq and sea salt potato chips, but by all means you can go with the classic Vegetable Coleslaw, American-Style Potato Salad, and Grilled Corn on the Cob. Be sure to stock up on condiments and sauces so no one is missing out on their favorite topping. Don’t forget about drinks! You can go all-out with summer inspired cocktails, but bottled beer is always just as refreshing and very American.
Nothing short of American, we went with the apple pie, fresh fruit, and star cookies, bringing in that patriotic style for dessert. For some tabletop décor we add less red, white, and blue and went with the stars and stripes ‘Home’ sign to keep the Memorial Day theme going throughout each aspect of the meal. Desserts can range from Blueberry Cobbler, All-American Banana Split, or Red, White, and Blue Strawberries. No matter what you decide to serve, be sure its Memorial Day themed.
